SUMMARY:Membership Services Conference - Call for Sessions
DESCRIPTION:The Membership Services Conference\, incorporates WIDAR\, ACSU/RAWS and Societies\, Volunteering  Community work MOMS and the LVPN. The conference is aimed at SU practitioners\, and will have up to 300 delegates learning from each other over 24 hours.\n\nThe Union MMU in partnership with NUS\, are excited to be running the second annual Membership Services Conference for specialist staff working with a membership remit.  The conference agenda will reflect the theme of SU16: ‘Championing Equality and Building Inclusive Students’ Unions’. As usual\, at the heart of the conference is the idea of shared mission and responsibilities across our various staff roles. This theme embodies both the aspirations and challenges of all areas of work: whether that be specifically about the work of liberation campaigns\, of access policy\, barriers to participation or the structuring of our services to meet and exceed the needs of our complex and diverse memberships.\n\nWould you like a chance to develop your CV\, highlight your work or ideas to a national audience of peers or simply get an idea across for their feedback and get a 10% discount?\n\nWe welcome applications for sessions that will build skills\, share new knowledge or provide a glimpse into what the future may bring in terms of changing policy and students’ needs. We want this conference to be an opportunity for delegates to build something together.\n\nPossible example topics include:\n\n \tThe progress of the CMA work;\n \tASB in halls and institutional strategies to dealing with it;\n \tBuilding democracy in clubs and societies;\n \tnew media communications strategies;\n \tapproaches to disabled students support within institutions;\n \tstudent-led campaigning;\n \tlinks between academic societies and academic representation.\n\nAs well as anything else that will help practitioners. We want to be able to choose from a diverse range of options so please share your ideas with us\, be as radical as you like. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact:\n\nRuth Dalton (activities\, community and student development) r.l.dalton@liv.ac.uk\n\nGareth Hughes (membership services management\, strategy and insight) gareth.hughes@sunderland.ac.uk\n\nJenni Hastings (advice and advocacy) j.hastings@su.arts.ac.uk\n\nEllie Russell (representation and democracy) ellie.russell@nus.org.uk\n\nTony Payne (volunteering) T.Payne@canterburycollege.ac.uk\n\nThe four broad strands are:\n\n \tEnrichment (including clubs\, societies\, student development\, volunteering and community engagement)\n \tAdvocacy (including advice skills and knowledge\, service development and legal updates)\n \tCampaigns and Representation (including student reps\, democracy\,  elections\, campaigning)\n \tStrategy and Insight (covering new developments and fresh thinking in student and officer services and support)\n\nWe are looking for exciting sessions that clearly identify the benefits of attending\, look to tell stories that arouse curiosity or concern and leave the attendees with something to take away and apply in their own organisation.\n\nIf you have broader ideas for the conference\, please get in touch with the conference organisers\, Alan Roberts (alan.roberts@nus.org.uk) and Paul Norman (paul.norman@mmu.ac.uk)\n\nPlease complete this form and return to paul.norman@mmu.ac.uk by Monday 27th June.
